About Comfort Boards

The Boards were developed by Dr. Cheryl E. de Zayas, a Board Certified Pediatrician, and were born out of a desperate plea for a solution to partial and full amputation of infants digits. The CEO of a hospital mentioned the need to

Dr. Cheryl de Zayas in a meeting. She felt this would be a good time to try to help the pediatric department she had helped to found more than 18 years ago. The child’s board was presented to  Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA)  in demonstration of the hospital’s being proactive in removing any further risk to our patients, and to avoid any traumas in the future.

Comfort Boards progressed into the HIKER system. This was created after several unfortunate events to family members.

The Doctor's elderly parents suffered from trauma to their hands and arms from the taping that removed the skin on her hand and hair on his arm.

Another member of the family suffered irreparable damage to her elbow tissue after antibiotics infiltrated into her skin.

There had to be a better way to stabilize a person's arm to avoid damaging fragile skin and tissues.

The boards were originally called Snuggleboards, and used no taping. The prototypes  were made by hand using thermoplastic material, and strapping, no tape. The process was refined over time and the Comfort Board Company was formed.

Our boards are manufactured using rigid plastics that are designed to protect the extremities and prevent excessive movement, and allow caregivers to visualize the IV site and to safely reposition the extremity.

The built-in soft restraints protect the security and safety of both patients and caregivers.
